Buckle up! We’re about to tour the United States, one state at a time, to see which new vehicle claimed the #1 spot in 2023 (2024 data isn’t all in yet).
From beefy pickups to sleek sedans and trendy SUVs, each state has its favorite ride. Ready to find out if your state sticks to the pack or steers its own course? Let’s hit the road!
Alabama

The Ford F-Series finally parked itself atop Alabama’s sales chart in 2023, grabbing just over 5% of the state’s new vehicle sales (a big change in a state that once favored sedans).
The runner-up was the Chevrolet Silverado pickup. We’re not too surprised – Alabamians (is that what they call themselves?) clearly love their trucks for work and play, and the F-Series delivers plenty of both.
Alaska

Alaska’s wide-open wilderness demands toughness. The Chevrolet Silverado was the best-selling vehicle, hauling in roughly 7% of new vehicle sales statewide, with the Ford F-Series close behind.
Alaskans need vehicles that can handle snow, haul gear, and trek through rough terrain… and these pickups are practically built for it.
No wonder the top two are heavy-duty trucks!
Arizona

In sun-soaked Arizona, the Chevrolet Silverado edged out the competition to become the top seller. It accounted for around 3–4% of new vehicle purchases, just ahead of the trusty Ford F-Series in second.
It seems even desert dwellers appreciate a good pickup, though the rise of EVs is notable – the Tesla Model Y made an appearance among Arizona’s top three sellers.
Arkansas

Everything’s coming up trucks in Arkansas. The GMC Sierra 1500 took the crown as the Natural State’s favorite new vehicle, with the Ford F-Series pickup riding shotgun in second place.
That’s right, Arkansans (that doesn’t sound right either…) opted for a bit of upscale pickup luxury. Maybe it’s those posh Denali trims catching eyes on local roads?
Either way, tough trucks rule here, with even Chevy and Ram filling out the top spots.
California

Sunny California went electric in a big way. The Tesla Model Y was the Golden State’s best-selling vehicle of 2023, accounting for roughly 8% of all new cars sold (an impressive feat in such a huge market).
Hot on its heels was another EV – the Tesla Model 3, which took the runner-up spot. Who needs gasoline when your state is a hub of tech and environmental trends?
Californians embraced Tesla’s techy vibe, with the trusty Toyota RAV4 and Camry still making the top five for those preferring traditional rides.
Colorado

Colorado drivers love adventure – and apparently innovation too. The Tesla Model Y charged into the top slot as 2023’s bestseller, outselling even the perennial favorite trucks.
It grabbed roughly 5% of the state’s new vehicle sales. The Ford F-Series was the runner-up , proving Coloradans still appreciate a capable pickup for hauling skis, bikes, and camping gear through the Rockies.
An electric SUV leading the pack in this outdoor playground? Now that’s a high-voltage twist!
Connecticut

In Connecticut, the Toyota RAV4 drove off with the best-seller title, comprising about 3% of new vehicle sales.
Close behind was the Honda CR-V. It’s a battle of practical crossovers in the Nutmeg State.
With all-wheel drive for snowy winters and good gas mileage for long commutes, it’s easy to see why these comfortable, family-friendly SUVs rule Connecticut’s roads.
Delaware

Delaware may be small, but its appetite for trucks is big. The Ford F-Series was the top-selling vehicle in 2023, and the Chevrolet Silverado was runner-up.
Together these pickups account for a solid chunk of Delaware’s new vehicle sales. From rural farms downstate to the suburbs of Wilmington, Delaware drivers showed a lot of love for American pickups, proving even the First State isn’t immune to truck fever.
Florida

Florida kept it Ford in 2023. The Ford F-Series pickup was king of new vehicle sales in the Sunshine State, capturing roughly 3–4% of the market, and the Toyota RAV4 was second.
It seems Floridians enjoy a mix of capability and comfort – the F-Series for towing boats to the beach or tackling hurricane cleanup, and the RAV4 for zipping around town with the family.
Either way, versatility wins in Florida’s diverse landscapes.
Georgia

Georgia is for truckers. The Ford F-Series took the top spot, with the Chevrolet Silverado rolling in as the runner-up.
Whether it’s Atlanta’s suburbs or rural peach farms, the Peach State loves pickups. They’re handy for tailgates (of both kinds) and hauling everything from work supplies to weekend adventure gear.
Georgia’s motto might be wisdom, justice, and moderation – but when it comes to vehicles, it’s trucks, trucks, and more trucks!
Hawaii

Aloha to the Toyota Tacoma, Hawaii’s favorite new vehicle of 2023.
This trusty midsize pickup (practically the unofficial truck of the islands) snagged the top spot, while the Toyota 4Runner SUV was the runner-up.
Hawaiians value reliable rides that can handle sand, surfboards, and volcano slopes.
The Tacoma’s durability and the 4Runner’s go-anywhere attitude make them perfect for island life, just ask the countless Tacomas with surf racks cruising Oʻahu’s North Shore.
Idaho

Idaho’s love affair with pickups is almost without rival. The Ford F-Series reigned supreme as the best-selling vehicle, with the Chevrolet Silverado coming in second.
Together, these trucks plowed through Idaho’s new vehicle sales like a potato harvest. From Boise to Bonners Ferry, Idahoans need capable trucks for farming, fishing, and everything in between.
No surprise the top two vehicles are built to tackle the rough roads and rugged terrain of the Gem State.
Illinois

In a twist for 2023, Illinois drivers made the Honda CR-V the top seller – knocking the usual trucks off the throne.
The CR-V’s share of new sales was about 2.5%, just enough to beat out the electric Tesla Model Y, which took second place.
Who says the Midwest is only about pickups? Illinoisans, especially around Chicagoland, embraced the CR-V’s blend of efficiency, space, and Honda reliability.
Still, the fact that a Tesla nearly topped the list shows the Land of Lincoln has an eye on the future.
Indiana

Hoosiers went for heartland horsepower last year. The Chevrolet Silverado was Indiana’s best-selling vehicle, with the Ford F-Series following as a close second.
It’s an all-pickup podium in the Crossroads of America; fitting, since Indiana is home to plenty of farms, factories, and open roads where trucks thrive.
Whether it’s towing RVs down Interstate 69 or hauling basketball gear (this is Indiana after all), the Silverado and F-Series proved perfect teammates for the job.
Iowa

No surprise in the Hawkeye State – the Chevrolet Silverado claimed the sales crown, with the Ford F-Series right behind it.
In Iowa, trucks are practically part of the family. With endless miles of farms and fields, Iowans count on pickups to get work done (and to get to the best tailgate spots in Iowa City on Saturdays!).
In 2023, the trusty Silverado edged out Ford’s F-Series, showing that a strong dealer network and brand loyalty can go a long way on the prairies.
Kansas

On those long stretches of prairie highway, Kansans clearly prefer the commanding view and capability of a pickup.
The F-Series in particular fits right in – dependable for farm work on weekdays and comfortable enough for a night out in Wichita.
And if there’s one thing Kansans value, it’s a vehicle that won’t let them down when the winds come sweeping down the plain.
Kentucky

Kentucky swapped horses for horsepower, favoring the Chevrolet Silverado as 2023’s top seller. The Ford F-Series galloped in as the runner-up.
It seems the Bluegrass State likes its pickups, and even Ford’s heavy-duty truck plant in Louisville couldn’t sway Kentuckians from bowtie trucks taking first place.
Whether it’s hauling bourbon barrels or towing a bass boat on Lake Cumberland, the Silverado proved it has the work ethic to win Kentucky’s heart – by a nose.
Louisiana

Down in the bayou, the Ford F-Series reigned supreme as the best-selling vehicle in 2023, with the Chevrolet Silverado snapping at its heels in second.
Louisianans need tough vehicles for everything from muddy hunting camps to city drives in New Orleans, and the F-Series delivers.
Plus, let’s be honest – a pickup is great for loading up crawfish boils and Mardi Gras floats! The Chevy Silverado gave a good chase, but Ford’s workhorse had just enough mojo to stay king of the road in Louisiana.
Maine

Maine might be known for lobsters and lighthouses, but it’s also truck country. The Ford F-Series was the Pine Tree State’s top seller, and the Chevrolet Silverado was a solid second.
With harsh winters and rural landscapes, Mainers rely on these pickups to plow through snow and navigate backwoods roads.
Plus, you can throw plenty of fishing gear or camping supplies in the bed. It’s Yankee practicality at its finest – two American trucks leading the way, no frills needed.
Maryland

Surprise! Tech-savvy Maryland flipped the script with the Tesla Model Y as the best-selling vehicle of 2023.
This electric crossover shocked the competition, while the Toyota RAV4 took second place. Marylanders around the D.C. suburbs especially embraced the Model Y’s blend of performance and green cred (perhaps inspired by all those federal EV incentives buzzing around Capitol Hill).
Still, the trusty RAV4 – efficient and all-weather capable – wasn’t far behind, proving there’s room for both futuristic EVs and familiar favorites on Maryland’s roads.
Massachusetts

In Massachusetts, practicality and efficiency win the day. The Toyota RAV4 was the Bay State’s best-seller, with the Honda CR-V close behind in second.
These two compact SUVs accounted for a sizable chunk of new cars sold – roughly 3% and 2.5% of sales, respectively.
From Boston’s narrow streets to Berkshires snow, Mass drivers love these do-it-all crossovers.
They’re easy to park at Fenway, frugal on gas for Cape Cod weekends, and sure-footed when Nor’easters roll in.
It’s wicked obvious why Massachusetts sticks with the RAV4 and CR-V.
Michigan

Home of the Motor City, Michigan stayed loyal to the hometown brand. The Ford F-Series was the top-selling vehicle of 2023, while an unexpected contender – the Chevrolet Equinox – snagged the number-two spot.
Ford trucks are practically Michigan’s mascot, so no shock there. But the Equinox’s strong showing (even above the Silverado) hints that plenty of Michiganders opt for a comfy, efficient crossover for daily drives.
After all, not everyone is cruising Woodward Avenue in a muscle car – a reliable SUV with good fuel economy suits the times. Still, it’s fitting that the state that birthed the F-150 kept it at #1.
Minnesota

Minnesotans endured the cold with a warm spot for the Chevrolet Silverado, the state’s top seller in 2023. The Ford F-Series came in second.
Up in the North Star State, a rugged pickup is practically a necessity – how else do you tow an ice-fishing house onto a frozen lake?
The Silverado, with about 4.5% of new vehicle sales, edged out Ford’s trusty F-Series. It might be Chevy’s strong dealer network or just Scandinavian stubbornness, but Minnesota stuck with what works: big trucks that laugh in the face of blizzards
Mississippi

Mississippi leaned into its country roots by making the Ford F-Series its best-selling vehicle. The GMC Sierra – that’s right, the upscale cousin of the Silverado – was the runner-up.
When even the second-place vehicle is a pickup (and a premium one at that), you know the Magnolia State loves its trucks.
With farms, forests, and the Gulf Coast requiring tough hauling, F-Series and Sierra pickups are perfect.
Plus, who doesn’t enjoy cruising a Mississippi backroad in a decked-out truck listening to the blues? These vehicles fit the local vibe like a glove.
Missouri

Missourians showed-me (pun intended) that they prefer pickups. The Ford F-Series was the top seller, trailed by the Chevrolet Silverado in second.
Whether you’re on a farm in the Ozarks or commuting around St. Louis, a pickup’s versatility comes in handy.
Ford’s F-Series in particular has deep roots at Kansas City’s Claycomo plant, so many locals proudly drive what their neighbors build.
The Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra tag-teamed close behind, proving that in Missouri, loyalty is split among truck brands – but pickups as a whole are the undisputed champs.
Montana

Big Sky Country, big pickup preference. The Chevrolet Silverado claimed the crown as Montana’s best-selling vehicle, with the Ford F-Series in second place.
Montanans need dependable rigs for ranching, hunting, and getting way off the beaten path – and these trucks deliver.
The Silverado took about 7-8% of new vehicle sales in the state, showing strong loyalty. Meanwhile, the Ford wasn’t far behind.
Out on Montana’s endless highways and rugged mountain trails, you’ll find plenty of Silverados and F-150s kicking up dust – they’re as much a part of the landscape as the Rockies themselves.
Nebraska

Nebraska stuck to the basics in 2023. The Chevrolet Silverado was the top seller, with the Ford F-Series as runner-up.
Both made up a healthy portion of new vehicle sales on the Great Plains. With farming being huge in the Cornhusker State, pickups are practically farm equipment.
The Silverado’s reliability and Chevy’s long heritage in the Heartland gave it a slight edge.
But whether it’s plowing a field or driving into Lincoln for a Huskers game, either truck will get you there. In Nebraska, flashy sports cars take a backseat to the practical muscle of a good pickup.
Nevada (A Tesla Sweep)

Nevada went electric and never looked back – the Tesla Model Y was the Silver State’s best-selling vehicle of 2023, and the Tesla Model 3 took second place.
Yes, in the land of wide-open roads and desert stretches, EVs led the pack. With roughly 4% of Nevada’s new vehicle buyers choosing the Model Y, Tesla conquered the Vegas strip and beyond.
Of course, pickups and SUVs still abound, but this EV surge shows Nevada’s forward-looking side. It seems fitting for a state known for high-voltage nightlife and innovation to put an electric car at #1.
New Hampshire

New Hampshire’s motto is “Live Free or Die,” and apparently free means free of change – the Ford F-Series remained the best-selling vehicle, with the Toyota RAV4 next in line.
Granite Staters love the freedom their trucks and SUVs provide to roam the great outdoors. The F-Series handles tough New England winters and hauls the snowmobiles, while the RAV4 offers all-wheel-drive practicality for everyday driving.
New Hampshire kept it simple: trusty trucks and reliable crossovers to handle whatever Mother Nature (or Mount Washington) throws their way.
New Jersey

New Jersey crowned a new kind of boss in 2023: the Tesla Model Y was the Garden State’s top seller. The Honda CR-V slotted in as second place.
Who would’ve thought? From the suburbs outside NYC down to the Jersey Shore, EVs have clearly made inroads – maybe all those Tesla Superchargers at the local Wawa paid off!
Still, the Honda CR-V’s strong showing proves Jersey drivers balance innovation with practicality.
They might embrace cutting-edge electric tech, but they also appreciate a good, reliable SUV for the everyday commute down the Turnpike.
New Mexico

New Mexico stuck with a trusty pickup as its favorite: the Ford F-Series was #1, followed by the Chevrolet Silverado at #2.
From Albuquerque to the ranchlands, New Mexicans value the toughness and cargo capacity of these trucks.
Whether you’re towing an RV to explore White Sands or carrying supplies out on the range, a pickup is the go-to vehicle.
In 2023 the F-Series slightly outsold its Chevy rival, proving that in the Land of Enchantment, a reliable truck is truly enchanting.
New York

The Empire State shook things up – the Honda CR-V became New York’s best-selling vehicle in 2023, narrowly beating the Toyota RAV4 which came second.
In the land of subways and taxis, remember that much of New York is suburbs and upstate. Those drivers love efficient, practical SUVs for family life.
The CR-V’s roomy interior and smooth ride won over many New Yorkers (likely in the boroughs outside Manhattan and beyond).
The RAV4, a perennial favorite, was right behind. It’s a tale of two SUVs at the top, proving New Yorkers prefer maneuverable crossovers to oversized trucks on their tight roads.
North Carolina

North Carolina split the difference between trucks and SUVs. The Toyota RAV4 was the Tar Heel State’s best-seller, with the Chevrolet Silverado pickup as the runner-up. That’s a one-two reflecting North Carolina’s mix of urban growth and rural roots.
City dwellers in Charlotte and Raleigh flock to the efficient RAV4 (great for school runs and beach trips alike), while folks in the countryside stick with dependable pickups like the Silverado. Together, they dominated NC’s sales.
From the Smoky Mountains to the Outer Banks, North Carolinians found a balance between comfort and capability in their top vehicle choices.
North Dakota

North Dakota doubled down on pickups. The Chevrolet Silverado was 2023’s top seller, and the Ford F-Series took second place.
Up on the Northern Plains, with frigid winters and oil fields aplenty, trucks are practically a necessity. The Silverado and F-Series together made up a significant share of new vehicle sales here (well into the single digits each).
North Dakotans trust these workhorses to start on a -30°F morning and plow through snow drifts without breaking a sweat.
For them, the best vehicle is one that works as hard as they do – no fancy frills required.
Ohio

Ohio drivers showed a soft spot for something different: the Honda CR-V ended up as the best-selling vehicle of 2023, with the Ford F-Series in second.
In a state known for manufacturing and farming, seeing a compact SUV at #1 is a twist. But consider Ohio’s big suburban population – the CR-V’s mix of reliability, decent fuel economy, and cargo space makes it a smart choice for families.
Don’t be fooled, though: Ohio still loves pickups (the F-Series and Silverado remain hugely popular).
It’s just that Buckeye State buyers decided in 2023 that a comfy SUV can be just as all-American as a pickup truck.
Oklahoma

Oklahoma kept it traditional in 2023. The Ford F-Series was the top-selling vehicle, with the Chevrolet Silverado following as second-best.
In a state where the wind comes sweeping down the plain – and often kicks up a ton of dust – robust trucks are beloved. From ranching to oilfields, Oklahomans rely on Fords and Chevys to get tough jobs done.
These pickups probably hauled countless horse trailers and work equipment across the Sooner State last year. When it comes to vehicles, Oklahoma’s philosophy is clear: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it – just buy a truck.
Oregon

Eco-friendly Oregon embraced the outdoorsy Toyota RAV4 as its bes tseller, while the Ford F-Series claimed second place.
The RAV4 has long been a hit in the Pacific Northwest – its all-wheel drive handles the rainy mountain passes, and its efficiency satisfies the eco-conscious vibe of Portland and Eugene.
But Oregon is also logging and farming country, hence the F-Series still ranks high. Fun fact: the Tesla Model Y was third in Oregon, showing that green-minded Oregonians are also plugging in. S
till, for now the practical RAV4 wears the crown, with a trusty Ford pickup riding shotgun.
Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania favored a reliable Japanese SUV in 2023: the Toyota RAV4 was the Keystone State’s top-selling vehicle, with the Honda CR-V as the runner-up.
Together, these two accounted for a healthy chunk of new car sales (each roughly 3% or so of the market). From Pittsburgh to Philadelphia, Pennsylvanians appreciated the RAV4’s blend of space, safety, and all-weather traction.
And the CR-V – well, it’s hard to find a more well-rounded compact SUV, which is why it wasn’t far behind.
Even with all the state’s history, Pennsylvanians proved they’re not stuck in the past when it comes to their cars – practicality and efficiency lead the way.
Rhode Island

Rhode Island may be tiny, but its car market had a clear favorite: the Toyota RAV4 was 2023’s best-seller, and the Hyundai Tucson took second.
That’s two compact SUVs ruling the Ocean State. With tight city streets in Providence and beach runs to Newport, Rhode Islanders love a vehicle that’s easy to park, fuel-efficient, yet roomy enough for a clam bake’s worth of stuff.
The RAV4’s strong reputation carried it to #1. The Tucson as runner-up shows Rhode Islanders aren’t afraid to try a value-packed alternative – a nod to Hyundai’s rise in quality.
Size isn’t everything, and in America’s smallest state, crossover SUVs proved to be just right.
South Carolina

South Carolina revved up its love for pickups. The Ford F-Series was the top seller, followed by the Chevrolet Silverado in second.
Whether it’s construction in booming Charleston or farming in the Lowcountry, South Carolinians counted on these trucks daily – and it shows in the sales charts.
Of course, SUVs like the CR-V and RAV4 also cracked the top five, since not everyone needs a big hauler.
But 2023 confirmed what we see on I-26 any given day: the Palmetto State runs on pickup power, with Ford and Chevy leading the charge.
South Dakota

No surprises on the prairie: the Ford F-Series was South Dakota’s best-selling vehicle, and the Chevrolet Silverado came in second.
In a state where the distances are vast and the winters brutal, a sturdy pickup is often the vehicle of choice. The F-Series has been a longtime favorite of ranchers and townsfolk alike (gotta get to Sturgis somehow!).
Chevy’s Silverado had a strong showing too, proving South Dakotans are split only by brand, not by vehicle type.
With trucks taking up most of the top five slots, 2023 was basically a victory lap for pickups across South Dakota’s Badlands and beyond.
Tennessee

Tennessee kept on truckin’ in 2023. The Ford F-Series took the top spot in new vehicle sales, while the Chevrolet Silverado was the runner-up.
From Memphis to Knoxville, Tennesseans showed a clear preference for these full-size pickups – ideal for towing boats on the Tennessee River or loading up instruments for a Nashville gig.
Interestingly, the Honda CR-V also ranked highly in Tennessee, but not enough to topple the truck royalty.
At the end of the day, the Volunteer State proved it’s loyal to vehicles that are hardworking and hearty, much like its famous BBQ.
Texas

Everything’s bigger in Texas, including vehicle preferences. The Ford F-Series was the undisputed best-seller in the Lone Star State, and the Chevrolet Silverado was number two.
Together, these pickups dominate Texas roads (no shock, as Texas consistently buys more pickups than any other state ).
With roughly 5–6% of Texas’s new vehicle buyers choosing an F-Series, Ford’s trucks are practically part of Texan culture.
Whether it’s hauling cattle trailers or cruising Dallas in a lifted rig, Texans love their trucks. Chevy’s Silverado (and its cousin the GMC Sierra) also earned plenty of Texas pride in 2023 – but Ford wears the cowboy crown.
Utah

Utah balanced utility with a touch of tech. The Ford F-Series was the top seller, with the Chevrolet Silverado in second, but notably the Tesla Model Y ranked third in Utah’s 2023 sales.
The F-Series and Silverado indicate Utahns’ enduring need for capable trucks – think hauling ski gear up to Park City or ATV trailers to Moab.
Yet, the popularity of the Model Y shows the state’s modern, eco-friendly streak (not surprising, given Silicon Slopes and all).
Still, ultimately, the pickups prevailed at one and two. In Utah, you can have your cutting-edge EV, but you probably also have a pickup parked next to it in the garage.
Vermont

Vermont’s best-seller of 2023 was the Ford F-Series, but just barely – the Toyota RAV4 was right behind as the runner-up.
This reflects Vermont’s mix of rural ruggedness and green sensibility. Many Vermonters need a trusty truck for country living (tapping maple trees or carrying wood for the winter), hence the F-Series on top.
Yet the RAV4’s strong second-place finish (Vermont was one of its strongholds) shows the pull of an efficient AWD SUV for those winding mountain roads.
In true Vermont fashion, even the vehicle choices are down-to-earth: nothing too flashy, just dependable rides to get through mud season and snow season alike.
Virginia

Virginia steered toward innovation in 2023. The Tesla Model Y emerged as the top-selling vehicle, with the Honda CR-V coming in second.
Northern Virginia’s tech corridor likely played a big role in boosting Tesla to #1 – traffic on I-66 is now peppered with Model Ys zipping past.
Meanwhile, the CR-V remained a favorite for its practicality, claiming the next spot.
From the DC suburbs to the Blue Ridge Mountains, Virginia showed an interesting divide: a nod to the future with an electric leader, followed closely by a trusty, family-friendly SUV. It’s a fitting mix for a state that’s both historic and forward-looking.
Washington

Washington State went electric and never looked back. The Tesla Model Y dominated new vehicle sales in 2023, and the Toyota RAV4 was the second favorite.
In a place famed for tech giants and green values, it makes sense that an EV tops the list – the Model Y has become as common in Seattle as rain in November.
It snagged a healthy share of sales (reports show Teslas made a big dent in WA’s auto market). The RAV4, ever practical, held onto second place for those who prefer gasoline dependability.
But make no mistake, Washingtonians gave a resounding high-five to electric driving this year – confirming the state’s status as an EV trendsetter.
West Virginia

West Virginia’s mountain roads are owned by pickups. The Chevrolet Silverado was the best-selling vehicle in 2023, and the Ford F-Series was a close second.
These trucks are beloved in the Mountain State for their V8 power and go-anywhere grit – perfect for winding Appalachian highways and hauling hunting gear up to the cabin.
The Silverado edged out Ford just slightly, perhaps tapping into West Virginians’ loyalty to GM’s long trucking legacy.
Either way, if you’re driving through West Virginia, expect to share the road with plenty of pickups proudly wearing mud splatters like badges of honor.
Wisconsin

Wisconsin went full cheddar on pickups last year. The Chevrolet Silverado topped the sales chart, and the Ford F-Series was second in 2023.
From the farms of Green Bay to Milwaukee’s city streets, Wisconsinites relied on these trucks – and it shows. The Silverado made up about 5% of new vehicle sales in the state, with the F-Series right behind.
Whether it’s plowing through snowdrifts or towing the boat up to Lake Winnebago, Wisconsin’s favorite rides are built to work hard and play hard. Just add cheese curds and a Packers decal, and you’ve got the full Wisconsin experience.
Wyoming

Wyoming, land of rodeos and open ranges, unsurprisingly picked the Ford F-Series as its top-selling vehicle of 2023, with the Ram Pickup line in second.
The F-150 (part of the F-Series) alone grabbed about 4% of Wyoming’s new vehicle market – a staggering share but fitting for the state with the highest per-capita truck ownership.
In Wyoming, a truck isn’t just a vehicle; it’s practically a member of the family.
Need to tow a horse trailer or drive up a mountainside? These pickups have you covered. The fact that the heavy-duty Ram cracked #2 shows Wyomingites aren’t picky about brand as long as it’s a tough truck. It’s the Wild West out there, and the vehicles of choice prove it.
Bonus: Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico isn’t a state, but we couldn’t leave it out! In 2023, the tropical U.S. territory’s best-selling ride was actually the Tesla Model Y – talk about an electrifying change.
The Model Y sold roughly 12,000+ units in Puerto Rico, edging out the ever-popular Toyota Corolla (which was runner-up at around 10,876 units).
Puerto Ricans have traditionally loved compact cars, so seeing Tesla take the lead was a shock to many.
Blame it on increasing EV infrastructure and Tesla’s growing global appeal. From the streets of San Juan to the coastal roads, the Model Y silently zoomed past the stalwart Corolla in the sales race.
It looks like Puerto Rico’s car buyers are ready to plug into the future, island-style!
Thank You So Much for Reading!
From sea to shining sea (and beyond), 2023 showed that American vehicle preferences are as diverse as the country itself.
Trucks still ruled in much of the heartland, but SUVs and even electric cars made huge inroads in many states.
Whether it’s the rugged peaks of Wyoming or the sunny boulevards of California, each state’s best-seller tells a story about the lifestyle and values of its drivers.
We hope you enjoyed this cross-country drive through the data. Thanks for riding along – and here’s to the open road ahead!
