4L60E Manifold Pressure Switch

4L60E Manifold Pressure Switch

To put it in layman’s terms, a pressure manifold switch  is a part of the transmission that attaches to your valve body which tells it what gear that it’s in.  This in turn has an effect on exactly how much pressure is going through the lines of the 4L60E at any given time.  When they go bad, the number one symptom is going to be an extremely unpleasant ride and the transmission light/check engine.

4L60E Pressure Manifold Switch Problems

The pressure manifold switch for the 4L60E has a direct impact on how hard the transmission shifts.  Often, the computer will throw the P1810 trouble code when the switch fails.

The part on the 4L60E pressure switch manifold that typically fails is the O-Rings.  Once they have failed, you’ll be stuck with some brutal shifts.  So, if that describes what is going on with your car or truck, it may be worth your time to pursue a replacement solution.

Once the pressure manifold switch fails, you’ll be left with intermittent bad shifting, an incredibly hard 1-2 shift, and it should have thrown the P1810 code.  If you aren’t quite sure that this is the part that you need, you may wish to check out the 4L60E problems page.  It may help you get to where you are needing to go.

Take your truck to an auto parts store to verify that it has thrown the P1810 code before digging straight into replacing this part.  You don’t want to end going through all the effort if it’s not what you needed to replace anyway.  The part is cheap, but anytime you have to get under your vehicle and take a bath in ATF, it’s always good to be really sure.

Compatibility

We at GM Transmission Resource always recommend replacing GM parts with GM parts whenever possible.  We recommend the AC Delco 24215111 pressure switch manifold for the 4L60E and 4L65E transmissions.

Unlike many parts that have come and gone in the 4L60E’s internals, this part should work for all transmissions from 1993 on up to 2008.  It never hurts to check the compatibility, but you should be fine.  You can do that by entering your vehicle into Amazon before completing the purchase.

What is involved in replacing the 4L60E pressure switch manifold?

There isn’t a whole lot involved in replacing the switch, but it is an internal transmission  component.  As such, you will be dropping the pan.  The good news though, is that you can get right to it with almost no problem whatsoever.

This means that you’ll have to jack the vehicle up enough to get under it, so be super careful.  Always use jack stands and if you feel like you’ve gotten in over your head fill the transmission back up with fluid and drive your truck to the shop.
